1903 Wright Flyer

This replica was built at 1/3rd of the size of the original 1903 Wright Flyer. That puts the flyer’s wingspan at just over 13 ft. We used a combination of Smithsonian 3D models and recreated blueprints of the original as a reference. Out of the 3D model, we were able to pull out the engine components, scale them up, then print them in PLA. Other than the muslin fabric we used to cover the wings, the flyer is built mostly out of scraps. We used the wood from the cabinets and pulled out the dry cleaner’s conduit to produce the metal structure.
