Hangar 42 is a Coffee Shop located on Maxwell Air Force Base Gunter Annex in Montgomery Alabama.
The budget for this project was $175,000. I was project manager for retrofitting an old dry cleaner space into a coffee shop with a drive-thru. I was allowed a crew of 4 workers and given aesthetics directions to include a place where people would want to stay and hangout. I decided to go with an industrial feel using materials such as barn wood, steel, and brick. These materials complemented the vintage airpower and old hangar theme that the name of the coffee shop evokes. We moved a 22 ft center wall backward by 6 ft to create a more roomy, patron friendly space. We assembled the employee workspace by cutting the slab and running drains, power, and water behind the counter. From design to opening, the entire process took 8 months (July 2019 - March 2020), and we came in roughly $80,000 under budget.
